Online Survival Guide
Last updated August 20, 2008

How to complete all asynchronous class activities:

  1. Log in to the course home page: http://www.nowhereroad.com/technology_integration/
Note: the username and password for this is different from your UGA myID; your username is formatted as "first_last" and your password is the last 4 digits of your UGA ID (not your SSN.)
  2. Follow the Course Learning Plan according to the recommended due dates.

Step-by-step procedure for attending each online live class:

  1. Check your email for any pertinent news related to the course.
  2. At least 15 minutes before class time, log into WebCT - http://webct.uga.edu/ - with your UGA myID (there is also a link to WebCT on the course learning plan)
  3. Go to the WebCT course titled "EDIT 6150 (Rieber)".
  4. From WebCT, click on 'Horizon Wimba Live Classroom'.
  5. Choose to enter the room titled "Introduction to Computers for Teachers". This is where all of the live classes are conducted.
Note the 4 breakout rooms also listed (e.g. Breakout Room 1, etc.). Small group discussions will take place here. When in HW, you can go from room another by 'going through' the lobby.

Logging On and Off of Horizon Wimba

When you first log on, click if you hear audio and if you do not.

ALWAYS click the when you leave the Horizon Wimba. If you do not, you may not be able to reenter until Horizon Wimba "clears" your seat -- this may take up to 10 minutes.

Audio problems

If you have problems hearing audio, click on and choose to disconnect, then reconnect audio.

If the audio problems are not solved quickly, click on the button to alert the instructor, and type a quick message about the problem in the chat window.

If you continue to have problems, choose to Horizon Wimba, and then log back in.

Horizon Wimba System-Wide Problem

If the entire class has major problems with the system, do the following:

If your instructor does not provide information within 5 minutes in the chat room or so, then figure that the problem is isolated to your own computer. Try to log back in to Horizon Wimba. If you are still not successful, enter your problem in the chat window and email your instructor of the situation, realizing that s/he may only read the email after class.

Student Support of Horizon Wimba

UGA provides special support to students enrolled in classes that use the Horizon Wimba classroom. Students may get assistance by e-mailing hlive@uga.edu or calling Student Technology Support (STS) at 706-542-3333.
